Sumbawa is a unique destination in Indonesia, far from the mass tourism of Bali, but only 40 minutes away by plane.

Sumbawa is part of the Lesser Sunda Islands; this large island belongs to the province of West Nusa Tenggara and has four regencies (Sumbawa, Dompu, Bima, and West Sumbawa) with thousands of destinations: Moyo Island, Mount Tambora, Bima, and West Sumbawa are just some of the spectacular locations. Its highest point is Mount Tambora, an active volcano 2,824 m over the sea level. Sumbawa Island has an area of ​​14,386 km².

West Sumbawa regency is on the west part of Sumbawa Island.  This regency also includes more than 20 smaller islands. Some of these smaller islands have protected forest status. This Regency has an area of 1.743 km².

As you explore West Sumbawa, you'll discover incredible coastlines, agriculture and numerous mountains. Rice paddies cover 9,705 hectares of the regency's total area.

 

Climate
Air temperatures in West Sumbawa range from 21°C to 35°C, with a relative humidity of approximately 76%. West Sumbawa has a tropical wet and dry climate with two seasons: the rainy season and the dry season. The dry season in West Sumbawa extends from April to October, with August being the driest month. The rainy season typically occurs from November to March, with January being the wettest month, with monthly rainfall exceeding 250 mm. Annual rainfall in West Sumbawa ranges from 1,200 to 1,600 mm, with between 90 and 130 rainy days per year.

Travel West Sumbawa

In the West Sumbawa Regency, fishing is part of the culture. Here, fishermen are naturals, talented and experienced. In some villages, fishing is a way of living. Sport fishing is available in Rivers, Lakes and the Sea. 

The Marine Life in West Sumbawa is truly incredible. Snorkeling and diving are fascinating activities in the area. Surfing in West Sumbawa is a spectacular experience, with right-handers, left-handers, and A-frame waves for all levels. Surf lessons and surf guides are also available in West Sumbawa.
Almost 50% of the geography of West Sumbawa are mointains. Hikking with guides is possible here too.
